Women's Basketball Sets Season Lows for Points Allowed, Turnovers in Loss

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Instititue of Technology women's basketball team hosted Mount Mary University on Saturday afternoon. In a contest that was tight throughout, the Blue Angels pulled away late to defeat the Scarlet Hawks 44-29.

How it Happened

  • After Mount Mary scored the game's opening basket on a three-pointer, Illlinois Tech rattled off six unanswered points to take a 6-3 lead. The Blue Angels trimmed the deficit and managed to tie the score at 10 after one.
  • In the second quarter, Tech's defense tightened, holding Mount Mary to just seven points. The Scarlet Hawks scored five points in the quarter's final two minutes courtsey of Lindsay Zasadinski and a three-pointer by April Wanagas to take a 21-17 lead into the half.
  • After a Hailey Borowczyk three-pointer gave Tech its largest lead of the game at seven, the offense stalled for the Scarlet Hawks in the third quarter. Mount Mary poured in 14 points while holding Tech to just five and led 31-26 heading into the fourth.
  • The offensive woes continued for Illinois Tech in the fourth. Three Borowczyk points was all the Hawks could muster as Mount Mary extended its lead to double-digits.

  • Borowczyk led Tech with 12 points.
  • Venika Jarvis led the Scarlet Hawks in both rebounds (11) and steals (three).

  • Becky Onan led all players with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
