Women's Basketball Defeated in Non-Conference Contest

Chicago, Ill. - Hosting a non-conference contest, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's basketball team welcomed the Beloit College Buccaneers to the Keating Sports Center. The Buccaneers came out strong to quickly take the lead against the Hawks. By the final horn, the Buccaneers (4-6, 1-3) defeated the Hawks (2-8, 0-4) by a final score of 84-54.

First Half (Beloit 52 - Illinois Tech 22)

  • The visiting Buccaneers picked up 11 points before Julia Bucci hit a 3-pointer for the Hawks first basket of the game. A strong showing from the Buccaneers gave the visitors a 30-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

  • While the Hawks were able to get some action going during the second quarter, the Buccaneers were able to pick up where they left off from the first quarter. Multiple Hawks were able to net a basket through the quarter while the Buccaneers extended their lead. At the end of the quarter and heading into halftime, the Buccaneers led the Hawks 52-22. 

Second Half (Beloit 32 - Illinois Tech 32)

  • Coming out of halftime, the Hawks gained some momentum. Camden Joko put down 9 points from three 3-pointers throughout the quarter. In the third quarter, the Hawks outscored the Buccaneers 23-14. 

  • Heading into the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers led the Hawks 66-45. Although the Hawks held the Buccaneers to 18 points in the fourth quarter, they were unable to make up for the early deficit. At the final buzzer, the Buccaneers handed the Hawks a 84-54 non-conference loss. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Joko led the team with 15 points and 4 assists. Joko added 2 rebounds.

  • Chloe Churilla contributed 12 points and led the team with 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Churilla also picked up 3 assists. 

  • Bucci ended with 10 points, 1 rebound, 1 assists and 1 steal. 

Buccaneer Standouts

  • Elizabeth Kalk led the Buccaneers, recording a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds. Kalk also led with 8 assists and picked up 2 steals and 1 block.

  • Addyson Ciochon followed with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block.

  • Marlee Young added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.

  • Hannah Welte finished with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Welte led the team with 5 steals. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Hawks went 17-of-56 (30.4%) from the field, 7-of-19 (36.8%) from three, and 13-of-30 (43.3%) from the free throw line. Respectively, the Buccaneers went 38-of-76 (50.0%), 3-of-10 (30.0%), and 5-of-5 (100.0%).

  • The Buccaneers outrebounded the Hawks 48-34

  • The Hawks gave up 27 turnovers while the Buccaneers gave up 20.

The Hawks will have a break in action before returning to the court in the new year. On January 4, the Hawks will travel to Milwaukee, Wi. when they resume play to take on the Alverno College Inferno in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest at 7:00 p.m.
