Women's Lacrosse Scores Comeback Victory

IRVING, Tex. - The Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team opposed Benedictine College (Kansas) at the University of Dallas on Friday evening. Despite trailing early on, Tech fought back to win the match 15-11.

How it Happened

  • Illinois Tech started off the match strong, netting unassisted goals from Sarah Maciorowski and Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers in the first 10 minutes to go up 2-0.
  • Benedictine took control over the next 13 minutes, scoring six consecutive goals to lead 6-2 at 7:50.
  • Alyssa DeLuca scored at the 7:05 mark to pull a goal closer. After two more Benedictine tallies, Madison Meredith scored in a man-up scenario with 27 seconds left in the half to make the score 8-4 heading into the break.
  • The Scarlet Hawks set a tone to start half number two, as DeLuca and Fitzpatrick-Meyers each scored within the first four minutes.
  • After a Benedictine goal to go back up three, the Scarlet Hawks scored eight unanswered tallies to lead 14-9 at the 4:10 mark. DeLuca (four), Meredith (three), and Fitzpatrick-Meyers (one) accounted for the goals.
  • Benedictine would score twice late, but an insurance goal from Briana Villagrana helped ice the 15-11 win.

  • DeLuca was a force on the offensive end, scoring six times on 12 shots (10 on goal). She also won three draw controls and caused two turnovers.
  • Playing in her home state, Meredith scored four times and led all players with five draw controls. All of Meredith's shots on the day were goals.
  • Fitzpatrick-Meyers recorded a hat trick, scoring on all three of her shots.
  • Jennifer Young earned the victory in net, allowing just three goals in the second half.
