Women's Lacrosse Falls at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team took on Huntingdon College on Tuesday to wrap up a three-game road trip. The Alabama school won the battle of the Hawks, as the Huntingdon Hawks beat the Illlinois Tech Scarlet Hawks 12-9. Tech is now 3-2 on the season.

How it Happened

  • Huntingdon started the match strong, scoring three unanswered goals in the first five minutes.
  • It didn't take long for the Scarlet Hawks to respond, however, as the team would tie the score just three minutes later. Sarah Maciorowski scored off of a Heather Bennett pass before Sarah Colby and Alyssa DeLuca scored off of free position shots.
  • In what turned into a match of runs, Huntingdon would go on the next one. Huntingdon scored the half's final four goals to go up 7-3 heading into the intermission.
  • Illinois Tech continued to have success off free position shots to start the second half, as both Maciorowski and Colby scored goals of the FP variety to pull Tech to within two at the 25:08 mark.
  • Huntingdon's next run would ultimatley seal the match, as the home team went on a 5-0 run over the next 15 minutes to build a 12-5 lead.
  • Illinois Tech would not go down without a fight, as four different players scored the final four goals. Bennett scored the final goal of the match off of an assist from Maciorowski with 2:50 remaining.

  • Illinois Tech was 5-of-9 off free position attempts. Huntingdon was 2-of-3.
  • Huntingdon held narrow advantages in shots (24-23), turnovers (21-25), and draw controls (14-9).
  • The fouls disparity was large, as Huntingdon committed 33 fouls compared to just 14 for Tech.
