After Two Delays, IWU Outlasts Tech

CHICAGO, Ill. - On a night that featured two seperate lightning delays of 30 minutes as well as windy and rainy conditions for the duration of the match, the Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team fell to Illinois Wesleyan University 13-5.

How it Happened

  • After a 30-minute lightning delay to begin the match, the Scarlet Hawks opened the scoring on a Madison Meredith tally.
  • IWU would rattle off three unanswered goals before Tech pulled to within one off a goal from Sarah Maciorowski.
  • With 7:27 remaining, Mother Nature took control once again and enduced another 30-minute lightning delay.
  • After play resumed, the Titans scored twice more prior to halftime to take a 5-2 lead into the very brief intermission.
  • The two teams began the second half almost immeaditley after the first. IWU picked up right wehre it left off, as the team scored two goals within a minute of each other to go up 7-2 with 24:37 remaining.
  • Meredith and Sarah Colby would score consecutivley for Tech to pull back within three, but the Titans responded with a 6-1 run for the rest of the half. Alyssa DeLuca notched the final tally for the Scarlet Hawks with 12:30 remaining.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Meredith led the team with two goals scored, six ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. She also was one of two players to notch an assist.
  • Colby, Maciorowski, and DeLuca all scored for Tech. DeLuca's tally was her 29th on the season.
  • Taylor Thompson recorded an assist.
  • Abbie Reynolds made 10 saves in net.

Stats to Know

  • Wesleyan outshot the Hawks 29-18 and also led in draw controls 10-6.
  • The turnover battle was close (15-14 in favor of IWU).
  • Tech picked up 17 ground balls compared to 14 for the Titans.
