Tech Beats Wartburg in a Blizzard

CHICAGO, Ill. - The elements continued to present a challenge for the Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team, as the Scarlet Hawks battled Wartburg College in frigid temperatures, driving snow, and winds gusting upwards of 50 miles per hour. However, Tech continued to previal over these elements, moving to 3-1 at home on the season, 6-3 overall, and 3-1 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play with a decisive 14-5 win.

How it Happened

  • It did not take long for Tech to jump out ahead, scoring off of a free position attempt from Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers at the 28:32 mark.
  • After an Isabella Rubin goal courtsey of a Madison Meredith assist at 24:33, Wartburg tallied at 20:44 to pull to within one.
  • The Scarlet Hawk offense found a second gear, scoring six straight goals to end the half. The half's final two goals came within seven second of each other, as Meredith (3:33) and Sarah Colby (3:25) scored consecutivley.
  • Tech picked up right where it left off in half number two, scoring three more unanswered goals before Wartburg tallied with 14:40 left to make the score 11-2.
  • Both Colby and Fitzpatrick-Meyers tallied once again to go up 14-3.
  • Wartburg closed the match out with two goals, one as time expired.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Alyssa DeLuca increase her MWLC lead in goals with four more. She also added two ground balls and two draw controls.
  • Coby tallied three times and led the Scarlet Hawks with seven ground balls.
  • Rubin, Meredith, and Fitzpatrick-Meyers each scored two times. Rubin also tallied six ground balls, while Meredith had an assist to her credit.
  • Sarah Maciorowski tallied one goal and one assist.
  • Cassandra Reineke rrecorded an assist and a team-high four draw controls.

Stats to Know

  • Tech outshot the Knights 27-12.
  • The Scarlet Hawks were 9-for-15 on clears while Wartburg struggled, finishing just 4-of-15.
  • The ground ball battle was controlled by Illinois Tech, as the team won 34-18 in the category.
