CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team hosted Elmhurst College on Wednesday night in a non-conference match. Tech moved to four games above .500 with a 9-3 win.

How it Happened

  • Both teams had the elements to battle on this night, with a steady rain falling for most of the contest. It showed early on, as both teams struggled offensivley.
  • Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead at the 24:40 mark, but the Scarlet Hawks used a barrage of shots to take a 2-1 lead. Sarah Colby scored twice in the first half, both off of Isabella Rubin assists. 
  • Despite the Scarlet Hawks outshooting Elmhurst 20-4 in the first half, the Bluejays were able to tie the score before intermission.
  • Tech broke the 2-2 tie very quickly once the second half began, as Rubin scored in the half's first minute.
  • Elmhurst tied the score at the 25:38 mark, but the Scarlet Hawks then found another gear. Colby began a 6-0 run to close out the match, scoring the first of three man-up goals the Scarlet Hawks would net before time expired.
  • Colby, Rubin, Madison Meredith, and an own goal would combine for the rest of the scoring for the Scarlet Hawks. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Colby led the team with four goals and 12 shots.
  • Rubin scored three times and attempted 10 shots, all of which were on net. She also led the team in assists (two) and ground balls (seven).
  • Meredith scored once to go along with her two assists.
  • Abbie Reynolds earned another win in net, stopping five shots.
  • Cassandra Reineke led the team with five draw controls.

Stats to Know

  • Tech led in shots 36-11. 
  • Turnovers were even at 21.
  • Tech was an astounding 11-of-12 on clears. Elmhurst was 9-of-14.
