Streak Continues as Women's Lacrosse Downs Hamline

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team battled a steady rain to win its fourth straight match on Sunday afternoon. Tech pulled away late in a back-and-forth contest to down Hamline University 15-11 in the non-conference matchup.

How it Happened

  • Hamline was the team that jumped out ahead, as the Pipers scored the first three goals of the match.
  • Tech's first tally came courtsey of Alyssa DeLuca at the 21:02 mark. Madison Meredith, who assisted on the DeLuca goal, scored four minutes later off of a free position shot to make the score 3-2.
  • After a Hamline tally, Tech scored two more unanswered to tie the score at 4-4 with 12:49 left. The Pipers, however, would not allow to take a lead in the first half, scoring three of the next five goals to lead 7-6 at the break.
  • An Isabella Rubin goal 90 seconds into the second half tied the score at 8-8.
  • After trading a couple of goals, the Scarlet Hawks used a 3-0 run to take a lead in the match for the first time. Rubin (two goals) and Sarah Colby all scored over a nine-minute stretch in which Hamline did not attempt a single shot. Tech led 11-9 at the 16:00 mark.
  • After a Hamline tally, the Scarlet Hawks would ice the match with four of the final five goals.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • DeLuca and Rubin each led the Scarlet Hawks with four goals a piece. Rubin led the team with nine groundballs while DeLuca tallied five of her own. Rubin also recorded an assist.
  • Meredith put together a balanced line of three goals, a team-high three assists, eight ground balls, and a team-high four draw controls.
  • Colby recorded three goals and one assist.
  • Cassandra Reineke scored once and led the team with six draw controls.
  • Abbie Reynolds made five saves and won her sixth match of the season.

Stats to Know

  • The ground ball battle was very close, with Tech holding a slight 32-28 advantage.
  • The Scarlet Hawks outshot Hamline 34-21.
  • Tech turned it over 33 times compared to Hamline's 28.
  • Hamline was 9-for-18 on clears while the Scarlet Hawks finished 8-for-11.
  • Hamline's 37 fouls were more than Tech's 28.
