Women’s Lacrosse Victorious on Senior Night

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team hosted Senior Night on Friday evening against Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference foe Concordia University Chicago. Behind an impressive offensive performance, the Scarlet Hawks downed the Cougars 16-1.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars jumped out to the early advantage, scoring the first goal of the match at the 18:24 mark after Illinois Tech could not convert on its first six shot attempts.
  • From 16:27 onward, the match was all Scarlet Hawks. A man-advantage goal from Alyssa DeLuca was the first of 16 unanswered for Tech.
  • The Scarlet Hawks found the back of the net nine more times over the next 15 minutes of the first half. Four of the tallies came courtesy of Madison Meredith.
  • The second half was more of the same, as the Scarlet Hawks scored six additional times.
  • Senior Heather Bennett and freshman Sarah Colby capped off the scoring, tallying the last two goals of the match.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Meredith put together one of her best matches of her young collegiate career, as the freshman led the Scarlet Hawks with four goals and tallied 12 ground balls. The 12 ground balls are a season-high for a Tech player this season. She also tallied an assist, three draw controls, and seven caused turnovers.
  • Isabella Rubin also recorded 12 ground balls to go along with two goals, an assist, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
  • DeLuca (four goals, assist, six ground balls, five caused turnovers), Colby (three goals, assist), and Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers (two goals) also scored multiple times.
  • Bennett (one goal), Emilie Woog (one assist, two ground balls), and Briana Villagrana (two ground balls, two caused turnovers) all put together nice Senior Night performances.

Stats to Know

  • Illinois Tech outshot the Cougars 50-5.
  • The Scarlet Hawks controlled the ground ball battle 50-30.
  • Clears were also in Tech's favor, as Tech's 6-for-8 outdid CUC's 8-for-33.
