Women's Lacrosse Improves to 12-4 with Win over Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team continued its strong season on Wednesday night with a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference contest at nearby Benedictine University. After a slow start, the Scarlet Hawks took control for an 8-4 win.

  • BenU (6-8, 4-4 MWLC)

How it Happened

  • After Sarah Colby tallied within the first two minutes of the match, the Eagles held the Scarlet Hawks scoreless over the next 22 minutes. BenU scored twice in that span to take a 2-1 lead.
  • However, the Scarlet Hawks would find a way to grab the lead before halftime. Tech scored courtsey for Alyssa DeLuca and Cobly to go up 3-2 at the intermission.
  • Tech picked up right where it left off once the second half began, as Madison Meredith scored 53 seconds in.
  • After the Eagles scored once to make it 4-3, the Scarlet Hawks scored three straight to take a 7-3 advantage. The four-goal lead would be Tech's largest of the match.
  • Benedictine tacked on one more late, but the Scarlet Hawks would take it right back courtsey of Isabella Rubin to ice the match.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • DeLuca led the squad with three goals. 
  • Cobly and Rubin each scored two times. Rubin also tallied three ground balls and three draw controls.
  • Madison Meredith tallied one goal, one assist, three ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. 
  • Abbie Reynolds made four saves in the win.

Stats to Know

  • Tech outshot the Eagles 22-14 and won the turnover battle 24-20.
  • The Scarlet Hawks were a perfect 19-of-19 on clears, while BenU was 17-of-21.
  • The Scarlet Hawks committed 18 fouls. BenU tallied just nine.
