Hawks Stunned in Double Overtime

Hawks Stunned in Double Overtime

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The women's soccer team started slow on the road Sunday afternoon and could not overcome the early hole they dug for themselves.  Coe College got on the board a little over four minutes into the match and never lost their lead.

Just before the halftime break, Anida Phetchanpheng gave the Hawks some life as she tucked away her team-leading fifth goal of the year to knot the match at 1-1.  Once the Hawks started to finally play their style of possession, they were able to create many dangerous opportunities but unable to convert again for the entirety of the afternoon.  Coe goalkeeper MJ Winterer made 8 saves and came off her line well to break up many close calls.

After a scoreless second half and first overtime, it looked as though both teams would come away with a point.  However, with just over a minute left in the second overtime, the Hawks gave the ball away in the midfield and Sarah Fathallah took advantage of the counter-attack opportunity grabbing the 2-1 win and leaving the Hawks in disbelief.

Illinois Tech falls to 3-3 on the year and will have the chance to get back on track this Friday night as they host Anderson University at 6pm during Homecoming weekend.
