Scarlet Hawks Shine in Homecoming Match

Scarlet Hawks Shine in Homecoming Match

Chicago, Illinois - Three second-half goals would be the difference for the Illinois Tech women's soccer team as they hosted Anderson University during homecoming weekend.  The Hawks attackers were a constant threat and outshot the Ravens 21-7 on the night.

After a scoreless first half and eight unsuccessful shots for the Hawks, they came out firing on all cylinders in the second half.  Anida Phetchanpheng opened up the scoring in the 53rd minute on a very impressive diving header into the lower corner of the goal.  Ana Salgado got credit for the assist as she played a perfect cross into the box for Phetchanpheng to put away.

The score would remain 1-0 for the next 20 minutes until Lorena Costa crashed the goal to put the finishing touch on a Veronica Torres shot that caromed off the post.  Costa added another goal just two minutes later as Phetchanpheng took a player on down the right side of the box and slotted a pass back for a simple touch into the empty net.

Roxanne Myers made five saves on the day and recorded her third shutout of the season as the Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-3.  Next up, they will be on the road on Wednesday to take on Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
