Hawks Drop Heartbreaker in 90th Minute

Hawks Drop Heartbreaker in 90th Minute

Chicago, Illinois - The Illinois Tech women's soccer team hosted crosstown opponent North Park University on Wednesday evening and the fans got to witness a great battle.  Each team had plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the match, though North Park finished the most important one with just 0:24 remaining on the scoreboard for the 2-1 win.

The Scarlet Hawks got off to a quick start as Veronica Torres beat a couple of players down the left side of the field two minutes into the match, and put a ball on the six-yard line for a rushing Adrianna Maron.  However, Maron's one-touch shot bounced off of the right post.  Neither team would capitalize in the first half despite 21 total shots being taken between them.

North Park would open up the scoring in the 60th minute as Emma Lundeen rolled a shot into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Roxanne Myers.  In the 78th minute, the Hawks would find the equalizer as Anida Phetchanpheng cleverly laid a ball off to Hailey Kunkel for a 25 yard shot into the upper corner and her first goal of the season.  Lundeen would be the culprit again in the 90th minute as she was isolated on the left side of the field, cut the ball back to her right foot, and calmly finished the near post shot.

Myers finished the night with 8 saves.  The Hawks drop to 5-4 on the season.
