Scarlet Hawks Suffer Tight Road Loss

Scarlet Hawks Suffer Tight Road Loss

Adrian, Michigan – The Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team found themselves in cold and rainy conditions Friday night after a four hour bus ride to take on the Adrian Bulldogs.  That wouldn't stop them from battling incredibly hard in their second straight one-goal loss.  Missing a key central defender, the Hawks would get a big game out of goalkeeper Roxanne Myers who made some spectacular saves.

Just like two nights prior, the Hawks got off to a fast start, creating a couple of early chances that could have turned the tides of the game.  Instead, Adrian would get on the board first just before halftime. After Myers made the initial sliding save, Carmina Lizyness was there to put away the rebound for the 1-0 lead.

The Hawks came out of the halftime break with a ton of life and would soon find the equalizer.  Veronica Torres played a great entry ball in behind the back line of the Bulldogs and Lorena Costa won the foot race, chipping her first touch over rushing goalkeeper Taylor Royce.  Unfortunately, they would allow the Bulldogs to take advantage of a defensive error just two minutes later to take the lead back.  With the clock ticking away, Torres had a great chance to knot the game at two when she made her way across the middle of the field and crushed a shot from 25 yards that was headed for side-netting.  Royce made a great diving save to secure the 2-1 win.

Myers came up with eight saves for the Hawks, including two incredible stops in the closing minutes as the Bulldogs threatened to go up 3-1.

The Hawks fall to 5-5 on the season and will have the week to prepare for Maranatha Baptist University next Saturday in Watertown, Wisconsin.
