Hawks Lose the Lead as the Clock Ticks Away

Chicago, Illinois – Illinois Tech women's soccer couldn't add to their three game unbeaten streak as they dropped one to Elmhurst College on Tuesday night.  After holding a 1-0 lead for 50 minutes in the match, the Hawks were stunned in the waning minutes of the match as Elmhurst found the back of the net twice within 90 seconds to take the 2-1 win.

Noemi Luna got the Scarlet Hawks on the scoreboard when she volleyed a shot on the back post following an excellent cross from Kristen Barrett in the 36th minute.  It was Luna's 2nd goal in as many games as she was given the starting nod this week.

The first half was evenly played with both teams taking six shots.  Elmhurst put the pressure on in the 2nd half, forcing Roxanne Myers to make a couple of crucial saves to salvage the one-goal lead.  However, in the 87th minute, Emily Heimerdinger found the upper corner to knot the match at 1-1.  Just :89 seconds later Jackie Belmonte crashed the box and found the game-winner for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst improved to 9-5 on the year while Illinois Tech fell to 8-6.  The Hawks will head to St. Mary's of the Woods College on Saturday for their next match.
