Torres Leads Illinois Tech to Ninth Win

St. Mary's of the Woods, IN – Veronica Torres scored two goals to help secure a 3-1 win over St. Mary's of the Woods College on Saturday afternoon in women's soccer action.  On a sunny and hot October afternoon, the Scarlet Hawks found themselves struggling with the grass surface early on but soon found their way.

In the 31st minute, Ana Salgado slipped a pass through the defenders to Torres who cut it back to her left foot and placed it in the side netting for a 1-0 lead.  The Hawks would add two more goals in the 2nd half.  Adrianna Maron put away the finishing touch on a Lorena Costa cross after Costa displayed a great individual effort to beat St. Mary's goalkeeper to the ball.  Just two minutes later, Costa again made a great effort to get in behind the defenders before being taken down by a Pomeroy defender in the box.  Torres stepped up to put away her 2nd penalty kick and her 8th goal of the season.

Roxanne Myers recorded five saves on the afternoon.  The Scarlet Hawks improved to 9-6 on the season and next head to Rockford University on Wednesday.
