Women's Soccer Ties Unbeaten Coe 0-0

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's soccer team (1-2-2) has played strong defensively all season. Sunday was no different, as the Scarlet Hawks stifled an unbeaten opponent, playing Coe College to a 0-0 tie at Stuart Field in the Scarlet Hawk Classic.

How it Happened

  • After two early shots from Illinois Tech, the Kohawks fired off nine shots before Tech could generate another chance. However, keeper Roxanne Myers stopped two of those, and the starting defensive unit of Kristen Barrett, Katherine Nishimoto, Marina Eraas, and Sharon Wehmeyer held strong to take a tie into halftime. Coe led 10-5 in shots for the first half.
  • The chances were a bit more even in half two, with Tech holding a 7-6 shots advantage. The 72nd minute was especially imporant, as Coe rattled off two shots which were both stopped by Meyers.
  • One of the two shots was a penalty kick from Kelsey Fauser, which a diving Myers turned away.
  • Tech had a chance late in the second half, but an Adrianna Maron shot in the 88th minute was stopped by Coe keeper Kaitlyn Gordley to take the match to overtime.
  • Both teams attempted just one shot in the first overtime, but Coe let a few chances slip with three offsides calls.
  • Coe would test Myers in the second overtime, but she responded with three saves to keep the score tied.
  • Olivia Kochanek attempted a solid shot in the 108th minute that missed the net by about two inches off the top crossbar.
