Maron's Late Goal Pushes Women's Soccer to Victory

CHICAGO, Ill- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's soccer team earned a victory on Homecoming Saturday, downing Maranatha Baptist University 1-0 at Stuart Field.

How it Happened

  • Despite Maranatha holding a 9-3 advantage in first-half shots, Tech's defense held strong in front of Roxanne Myers to force a 0-0 tie at halftime. Myers stopped four shots in the half.
  • The Scarlet Hawks were the aggressors in the second half, creating several chances en route to a 8-2 shot advantage. 
  • Ade Maron attempted three shots between the 64th and 73rd minute, which were all saved by Sabercat goalie Hannah Anderson. The fourth time would be different for Maron, as she took a pass from Katherine Nishimoto in the 88th minute and skipped it past Anderson for the deciding goal.
  • Tech held strong for the last minute and a half to earn the 1-0 win.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Maron and Kristen Barrett led the Hawks with four shots attempts. All of Maron's four shots were on net.
  • Nishimoto recorded her first collegiate assist and led a strong defensive unit.
  • Myers recorded five saves.

For the Foes

  • Anderson stopped four shots for Maranatha.

Stats to Know

  • Shots were even at 11-11.
  • Tech led in corner kicks 5-2.
  • The shutout was the team's third of the season, all with Myers in goal.
  • No team has scored more than two goals (Tech or the opponent) in any Illinois Tech women's soccer match this season.
