Chicago, Ill. – Kayla Smith of the Illinois Tech women’s soccer team was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women’s All-Region First-Team for Region VIII.

Smith, the first-year defender from Redmond, Washington, was tied for fourth on the team with seven goals, was second on the team with seven assists, and was tied for third with 21 points. Smith was a key player for a Scarlet Hawks offense that led the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with 103 goals scored.

Smith was also part of a defense corps that allowed only 17 goals in 23 games played in the 2022 season, good for a 0.74 goals-against average.

Smith will be entering her sophomore season next fall for a Scarlet Hawk team that has played in back-to-back conference championship games the last two seasons, looking to take that next step.
