Freshmen Lead The Way as Women Fall to Lawrence in First Dual Since December

The Scarlet Hawks swimming and diving teams headed up I-94 on Saturday for an early afternoon matchup against the Lawrence University Vikings. Coming off the most intense training weeks of their season, both squads from IIT posted some impressive times and exhibited good race efforts despite their fatigued bodies.

The Lady Hawks dropped the contest 125-57 despite a strong effort. The women were led by Brigitte Temple's winning times in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke (2:20.19 and 1:13.69), Briana Tyler's second place finish in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:03.33 and Paige Mass' and Irena Grauzinis' first and second place finishes in the diving portion of the meet. Other strong swims came from Maddi Burrell in the 50 Free (28.41) and Micki Chung and Milli Gvozdjan in the 100 Free (1:04.32 and 1:04.65). The ladies continue to improve, setting themselves up well for this season's Liberal Arts Conference Championship meet and future years of success.

Next weekend IIT is doubling up with back-to-back contests in Dubuque, IA against Loras College (Friday, January 23 at 7 pm) and in Milwaukee, WI against Carroll University (Saturday, January 24 at 1 pm). For more up-to-date information on training and upcoming events, follow the teams on Facebook
