With Regular Season Concluded, Slominski and Swimming Focus On Nationals

by Eric Willuweit

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech swimming and diving team concluded their regular season on February 18th, with select individuals competing at the Midwest Invite at the University of Chicago.

Among those competing was senior swimmer Anna Slominski, who afterward found out they had made the cut to qualify for the 100-yard breaststroke in the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, NC March 15 through March 18.

Slominski is the second consecutive Illinois Tech swimmer to compete in the nationals, following Megan Burrill from the 2021-2022 season.

"I'm very excited to see Anna qualify again for the National Championships" said Interim Head Coach Billy Bafia. "With the miss last year and with this being their final season, we were hoping for the best and focusing on all the little details to shave as much time off as possible. It all worked out in the end by .03 seconds – a huge testament to how fast Division III has become and how much focus Anna themselves put into this season to have a qualifying time of 1:03.81 in the 100 Breaststroke" said Bafia.

"Anna has certainly become a role model for their peers" Bafia continued. "The amount of work put into their training everyday and the great balance outside of the pool is what we strive to have represented in our program. Like Megan Burrill in the 2021-22 season, Anna has continued to embody the student-athlete values of Division III this season" said Bafia.
