Women's Volleyball Splits in Kentucky

BEREA, Ky.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball team (7-5) split a four matches at Berea College's North/South Battlefield Classic on Friday and Saturday. The team swept Johnson & Wales (NC) in straight sets and falling to host Barea in four sets on Friday. On Saturday, the Scarlet Hawks lost to St. Mary of the Woods in straight sets before sweeping Kentucky Christian.

How it Happened

  • Illinois Tech dominated early against Johnson & Wales, taking the first two sets 25-13 and 25-19. Tech took a back-and-forth third set 25-20 to win in straight sets.
  • Against Berea, the Scarlet Hawks dropped the first set 25-13, but foguht closer in set two, falling 25-20. The team then took the third set 25-18 before falling to Berea 25-19 to close out the match.
  • Despite falling to St. Mary of the Woods, the Saturday morning match was tightly contested. The team fell 25-20 in set one, lost a wild 31-29 set two, and fell 25-22 in set three.
  • Tech took a tight 26-24 first set to kick-off the final match of the weekend against Kentucky Christian. After that, it was all Scarlet Hawks, as the team won 25-15 and 25-19.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Irena Grauzinis led the Scarlet Hawks with 36 kills in the four matches.
  • Chelsea Badiola led Tech in digs in all four matches, including 29 in the loss to St. Mary of the Woods.
  • Adriane Walther tallied 89 assists on the weekend.
  • Claire Fraeyman totaled 15 blocks in the four matches, with seven coming against Kentucky Christian.
  • Alyssa Miner tallied 12 kills against St. Mary of the Woods.
