Maranatha Defeats Women's Volleyball

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology (7-7) competed against Maranatha Baptist University on Friday night, falling to the Sabercats in straight sets. The loss put the Scarlet Hawks at a .500 winning percentage for the season.

How it Happened

  • Maranatha came out strong in the first set, scoring seven straight points before Alyssa Miner put Tech on the board with a kill. Tech would fight back, cutting the lead to three at 13-10, but the Sabercats slowly built the lead back up and took set one 25-19.
  • Set number two also saw MBU take control early, scoring the first four points and building a 7-3 lead. However, the Scarlet Hawks would score four straight to tie the score at seven, highlighted by three kills from three different players (all Adriane Walther assists). Maranatha, though, played its best volleyball of the night down the stretch of set two, going on two different four point runs en route to a 25-14 victory.
  • Tech competed very hard in the third set, leading for most of the set by as many as four points. With the Scarlet Hawks up 22-18 late, the Sabercats scored six of the set's final seven points and the final four tallies to win 25-23.

  • Jelena Vujicic was impressive, tallying a team-high nine kills and a .250 hitting percentage.
  • Irena Grauzinis led Tech with 17 digs.
  • Walther totaled 18 assists and 13 digs.
  • Miner was responsible for three block assists.

  • Alison Renz led all players with 19 kills (nine in set one alone) and a .357 hitting percentage.
