Saturday Sweep for Women’s Volleyball

CHICAGO, Ill- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball team (9-7) hosted a tri-match with Grace Bible College and Mount Mary University on Saturday, defeating both schools by 3-0 scores.

How it Happened

  • Illinois Tech was in complete control for most of the 2:00 p.m. match against Grace, trailing just a few times early in each set before taking control.
  • Tech used a seven-point run in the first set to propel to a 25-18 win, downed the Tigers 26-18 in set two, and never trailed in set three en route to a 25-16 win.
  • It was more of the same for Tech against Mount Mary, controlling all three sets to win 25-15, 25-13, 25-13.
  • Set two was tied at 8-8 until Tech had a 13 point run, which featured six aces from Irena Grauzinis.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Jelena Vujicic had one of her best matches of the season against Grace Bible, tallying team-highs in kills (15) and hitting percentage (.414). 
  • Grauzinis added 12 kills against Grace Bible, as well as 11 kills and eight aces against Mount Mary.
  • Adriane Walther posted an impressive 35 assists against the Tigers as well as 28 against Mount Mary.
  • Julie Kipta-Skutnik was effective, logging five kills on a .400 hitting percentage versus Grace Bible

Stats to Know

  • Tech outhit the Tigers .217 to .011 for the match and recorded a .389 percentage in the final set.
  • Illinois Tech's hitting percentage against Mount Mary bested the Blue Angels .247 to .024.
  • Tech tallied 12 service aces against Mount Mary.
