Women's Volleyball Splits Saturday Tri-match

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Saturday with North Park and Robert Morris-Springfield. The Scarlet Hawks were defeated by the Vikings 3-1 before downing the Eagles by the same score.

How it Happened - North Park Match

  • North Park took set one 25-18, taking control late of what was a back-and-forth set. The Vikings outscored Tech 13-4 down the stretch to earn the win.
  • Tech responded in set two, building an early lead and never looking back en route to a 25-22 win.
  • In set three, North Park would be the ones jumping out to the lead. The Vikings led by as many as 13 before Tech went on a late 6-0 run, all on North Park attack errors. North Park would hold on, scoring the last two points of the set to win 25-15.
  • North Park led 5-0 in the fourth set and 11-2 later on. Tech, however, would slowly fight back and get to within two at 23-20. Two late kills from Lauren Wiltsie gave North Park the 25-22 win.

How it Happened - Robert Morris-Springfield

  • Tech was impressive in the first set, as the team used a balanced attack (.250 hitting percentage) to build a gigantic lead. Despite a couple of small Eagle runs, the Scarlet Hawks took the set 25-12.
  • Set two would be the best set of the afternoon for Robert-Morris, leading 16-6 before staving off a strong Tech charge to win 25-21.
  • The Scarlet Hawks re-took control in set three. Cassie Hansen fired two aces during a 6-0 opening run for Tech, who eventually won 25-15.
  • Another huge run vaulted the Scarlet Hawks in the fourth and final set. The team went on an 8-0 early run (featuring six kills) and never looked back en route to a 25-11 win.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Irena Grauzinis and Alyssa Miner each led Tech with 22 kills on the day. Grauzinis tallied 11 each set, while Miner had a season-high 16 against RMU-Springfield. Miner's .609 hittinger percentage in the match was also a season-high. Grauzinis also led Tech with 36 digs on the day, while Miner led with eight total blocks (one solo, seven assists).
  • Adriane Walther stuffed the stat sheet in both matches, as she tallied a team-high 65 assists, 35 digs, three kills, and a team-high four aces. She led Tech in digs against RMU-Springfield with 21.
  • Chelsea Badiola totaled 26 digs and 12 assists from the libero position.

Stats to Know

  • North Park's defense was strong against Tech, totaling 93 digs and withstanding 20 Scarlet Hawk blocks.
  • Tech hit .246% for the match against RMU-Springfield, one percentage point shy of a season-best.
  • Illinois Tech had no ball handling errors in either match.
