Women's Volleyball Defeats Moody for Second Time

CHICAGO, Ill.- In a hard-fought and exciting match, the Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball team moved to 11-12 on the season with a four-set win over Moody Bible Institute. The win marked the second time this season Tech beat Moody by a 3-1 score.

How it Happened

  • Tech took early control in set one, building a 10-2 lead behind an impressive display of attacking. Howeer, Moody would slowly cut the deficit as the match moved along, finally tying Tech late before rallying to win 26-24.
  • Set two was also tightly contested, as the lead changed hands five times early on before a run of five straight points by the Scarlet Hawks gave the team a 16-10 lead. The Archers scored 11 of the next 17 points to tie things at 21 before kills from Jelena Vujicic and Alyssa Miner iced the set for a 25-23 Tech win.
  • Illinois Tech dominated most of set three, as multiple attack errors and mis-sets helped the Scarlet Hawks build an impressive 21-5 lead. Moody would come on strong late in the set, but ran out of time as the Scarlet Hawks won 25-14.
  • In the decisive set four, Moody set the tone by building an 8-5 lead beforethe Scarlet Hawks came back to finally tie things at 11. Down the stretch, setter Adriane Walther made two impressive diving digs to keep plays alive and turn them into Tech points. Tech would ride the momentum to win 25-21.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Irena Grauzinis tallied 15 kills to lead all Tech players. She also totaled 11 digs.
  • Elizabeth Woltman returned to action for the first time since September 25 to tally an effective three kills and a team-high .273 hitting percentage, including an important kill in the fourth set to give Tech a 21-20 lead.
  • Walther tallied 31 assists, six digs, and a team-high four blocks.
  • Chelsea Badiola (14) and Reya Green (11) each totaled double-digit digs.

Archer Achievements

  • Two players, Brittan Carnahan (13) and Shelby Durham (12) each reached double-digits in kills.

Stats to Know

  • Tech won the match despite trailing in kills (40-36), digs (63-60), and total blocks (14-10).
  • The Scarlet Hawks outhit the Archers .058% to .013% while also tallying more aces (8-5) and less service errors (7-6).
  • Between the two matches against Moody, Grauzinis has 34 kills.
