Women's Volleyball Downs CUC on Senior Night

CHICAGO, Ill.- Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball closed out the home schedule with a win on Tuesday night, downing Concordia University Chicago in five sets in the Keating Sports Center.

How it Happened

  • Tech controlled the first set, downing the Cougars 25-15 behind a nine-point run which included two Irena Grauzinis kills.
  • The Scarlet Hawks looked to be headed toward a 2-0 lead, but the Cougars scored the match's last five points to steal the set 26-24.
  • Set three was back-and-forth until the Scarlet Hawks scored 10 of 13 points late to take a 24-18 lead. Once again, CUC would rally, scoring five in a row to make it 24-23. A Jelena Vujicic kill silenced the run and gave Tech the set three win.
  • The Cougars responded with a 25-22 win in set four, netting two kills down the stretch from Austin Thompson.
  • Illinois Tech and early 8-4 lead in the fifth set. The Cougars would fight back to tie it at 12, but the Scarlet Hawks scored the final three points as two Vujacic kills ended the match.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Vujacic tallied 14 kills, her second highest total on the season.
  • Grauzinis added 12 kills.
  • Claire Fraeyman's .278 hitting percentage led the Scarlet Hawks. She also led the team with seven total blocks.
  • Chelsea Badiola led Tech with 21 digs on her Senior Day.
  • Adriane Walther's last home match  was a double-double (33 assists, 15 digs).
  • Elizabeth Woltman tallied three kills on her Senior Day.

Cougars Highlights

  • Thompson led all players with 18 kills.

Stats to Know

  • Tech won despite the Cougars tallying more digs (78-72) and kills (52-44).
  • Tech outhit CUC .132% to .124%.
  • Concordia committed 16 service errors. Tech was charged with 11.
