Women's Volleyball Falls to BenU, Dominican

LISLE, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball team began its final weekend of competition on Friday, playing two matches at Benedictine University's Eagle Classic in nearby Lisle, Illinois. The Scarlet Hawks fell to host Benedictine and then to Dominican University, both in straight sets.

How it Happened- Benedictine match

  • The Scarlet Hawks began the first set strong, going up 2-0 and then 7-4 before the Eagles responded. BenU took the lead before going on a fun of five straight points to go up 15-9. Tech would play the Eagles tough the rest of the set, but fell 25-20.
  • Illinois Tech never led in the second set despite making the Eagles work for the win. Tech kept things close before the Eagles 10 of the sets last 11 points to win 25-14.
  • In set three, the Eagles jumped out to a 15-5 lead to make things hard on the Scarlet Hawks. Tech would fight back into the set, but the effort came up short as the Eagles held strong for a 25-22 win.

How it Happened- Dominican match

  • Despite hanging around early in the first two sets, the Stars went on large runs in both to win each set 25-13.
  • Illinois Tech played a much stronger third set, playing the talented Stars to a 22-22 tie before DU tallied the final three points to win.

  • Grauzinis tallied her 300th kill on the season with her last kill in the Dominican match.
  • Badiola brought her dig season total to 398 on the year.
  • The Scarlet Hawks totaled 11 digs against Benedictine.
