River Forest, Ill. - Tech women's volleyball headed west for a Sunday double header. The day started off with a conference match up with host Dominican University. The Stars (17-6, 6-3 NACC) handled the Hawks (6-16, 2-7 NACC) in straight sets. A quick turnaround for Tech pitted them against Olivet College out of Michigan. The Hawks were unable to keep pace with the Comets in another 3-0 loss.
How It Happened v. Domincan
- The Stars took advantage of a slow start from the Hawks as they jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead in game one.
- The Hawks quickly responded with 8 of the next 9 points to tie the game up at 8.
- The Hawks played evenly with the Stars until a late 8 point run to close out the game one in Dominican's favor.
- Match two saw an even match early until Domincan was able to build a 15-6 lead and sail to a 25-18 set victory.
- Set three looked to belong to the Hawks as a back and forth affair got to a 18-16 Illinois Tech advantage, however the Stars would score 9 of the next 11 points to close out the match 25-20.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts v. Domincan
- Sara Hassell once again paced the Scarlet Hawk offense with 9 kills and Karen Marrufo-Zubaran followed right behind with 8.
- Courtney Darling was an anchor on the defensive end leading the team in digs with 9 and second in assists with 11.
- Allison Wilkins led the group with 12 assists and Ellie Leach also contributed 6 kills.
How It Happened v. Olivet
- The Scarlet Hawks took control of the first game getting the lead out to 23-19 before a late 6 point run by the comments to close out game 1 to take a 1-0 lead
- Set 2 saw Illinois Tech once again got out to an early lead at 4-0, but couldn't maintain the momentum as the Coments went on a mid game 9 point run to get the separation needed to close out game 2 25-18.
- Match 3 saw an even battle with a mid match run that was the difference for Olivet as they closed out the match with a 25-17 win.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts v. Olivet
- Karen Marrufo-Zubaran was a force leading both teams in kills with 10 in the second match.
- Courtney Darling played the leader on the defensive side with 16 assists and 14 digs.
- Stephanie Nguyen was able to contribute 4 Aces on her serves.
