Lake Forest, Ill. – The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team opened their season with a 3-0 victory over Elmhurst University in their first day of play at the Forester Invitational, hosted by Lake Forest College. The Scarlet Hawks open the season 1-0. The Bluejays fell to 1-1.
How It Happened
- The Scarlet Hawks and Bluejays battled through a back and forth first set, with the Hawks surviving set point by Elmhurst at 24-23. The teams traded points through 27 all before the Hawks pulled away for a 29-27 set one victory.
- In set two, the Hawks jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but the Bluejays won nine of the next eleven points to take a 13-12 lead. The Hawks answered with a 9-0 run to take a 21-13 lead en route to 25-18 set two victory.
- In set three action, Elmhurst held a brief lead at 4-1, but another 9-0 run by the Scarlet Hawks put them in front 10-4. The Bluejays would get no closer than two points the remainder of the set, as the Hawks won 25-17 to complete the 3-0 match win.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Briar Moore paced the Scarlet Hawks with 10 kills.
- First-year hitter London Francis had eight kills to go with a .615 hit percentage.
- Sadie Harrington added 6 kills with a .417 hit percentage.
- Allison Wilkins led with 13 assists
- Stephanie Nguyen had an all-around performance with 15 digs, 7 assists and 3 service aces
