Women's Volleyball Completes 3-0 Weekend at Forester Invitational

Lake Forest, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team took care of business on their season-opening weekend, winning all three matches at the Forester Invitational, including defeating Augustana 3-2 and Trine 3-1 Saturday in Lake Forest. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 3-0 on the young season.

How It Happened

  • Illinois Tech vs Augustana
    • After winning the first set 25-14, the Scarlet Hawks dropped the next two sets 25-12 and 25-11, and appeared to be on the ropes in the match.
    • In a back and forth fourth set, Augustana held leads of three points on three separate occassions, but could never put the Hawks away, as Illinois Tech tied the set at 23 and won the final two points to take set four 25-23. The Hawks never led in the set until 24-23.
    • In the fifth and deciding set, the Hawks jumpted out to a 6-0 lead before Augustana closed the gap to 8-6. After trading two points each, the Hawks won five of the next six points to win set five 15-9, and the match 3-2. 
  • Illinois Tech vs Trine
    • The Scarlet Hawks opened the match versus Trine by taking the first two sets 25-17 and 25-18.
    • Despite holding a 12-3 and 20-11 in set three, the Hawks couldn't close out Trine, as the Thunder went on an 8-0 run and claimed 14 of the final 16 points to take set three 25-22.
    • The Hawks opened set four with a 2-0 lead and never trailed, closing out the set by winning the last five points for the 25-14 set victory to claim the match 3-1.

 Scarlet Hawk Standouts - Forester Invitational

  • Briar Moore finished the weekend with 29 kills for 2.42 kills per set. She also was second on the team with 22 digs and added 7 assists and 3 service aces.
  • Jessica Weaver had 20 kills for 1.67 kills per set.
  • Stephanie Nguyen led the team with 44 digs, while adding 18 assists and a team-high 11 service aces.
  • Sadie Harrington had 15 kills and a .306 hit percentage.
  • Grace Reckamp paced the Hawks with 44 assists while adding 11 digs.
  • Allison Wilkins had 25 assists to go along with 10 digs and 3 kills

The Scarlet Hawks head out to Colorado Springs, Colorado to compete in the Colorado College Invitational on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th, with matches against Colorado College and Friends University.
