Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team finished 1-2 on their trip to the Colorado College Inviational in Colorardo Springs, Colorado - sandwiching a 3-0 victory over Friends University on in between a pair of 3-0 losses to host Colorado College over Friday and Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks now have a 4-2 record overall heading into their NACC conference-opener Wednesday night at home against Concordia Chicago.
How It Happened
- Illinois Tech 0 vs Colorado College 3 - Friday, September 10
- The Scarlet Hawks held a 6-4 early lead in set one before being outscored by the Tigers 21-5 the remainder of the set to win 25-11.
- The Hawks once again heald an early lead in set two at 8-5, their most competitive set of the match. However, the Tigers responded with an 8-0 run to take a lead they never would relinquish. The Hawks would close within one at 15-14, but the Tigers chipped away to take set two 25-20.
- In the third and final set, the Hawks fell behind early, but battled to pull within 3 points at 11-8. Unfortunately that was as close as the Hawks would get the rest of the way, as the Tigers expanded their lead en route to a 25-11 set three victory, and a 3-0 match victory.
- Illinois Tech 3 vs Friends University 0 - Saturday, September 10
- The Scarlet Hawks and Falcons opened set one with a close contest, with the Scarlet Hawks holding onto a two-point lead at 13-11 before outscoring the Falcons 12-5 the remainder of the set for the 25-16 victory.
- Set two was even at 4-4 until the Scarlet Hawks went on a 6-0 run to put distance between them and the Falcons, eventually claiming set two 25-14.
- The third and final set was a much closer affair, as the Falcons found themselve only down two points at 18-16 late in the set. Another 6-0 run by the Hawks gave them the push that they needed, closing out the set with a 25-20 victory to complete the 3-0 sweep of the Falcons.
- Illinois Tech 0 vs Colorado College 3 - Saturday, September 10
- In the Scarlet Hawks most competitive set against the host Tigers over the weekend, Illinois Tech held a 20-19 lead late in set one, and were tied at 23-23 before Colorado College took the final two points for the 25-23 set victory.
- Illinois Tech held a 12-10 lead midway through set two, but a mini run of 4-0 by Colorado College gave the Tigers the lead for good, as they went on to win set two 25-15.
- In the third and final set, the Hawks ran out of gas, getting as close as two points down at 4-2 before the Tigers outscored them 21-8 over the remainder of the set for a 25-10 set victory and a 3-0 match victory.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts - Colorado College Invitational
- Sadie Harrington led with 22 kills and a 2.44 kills per set average.
- Zoe Michael had 19 kills and a 2.11 kills per set average, along with 19 digs and 3 service aces.
- Briar Moore finished the weekend with 16 kills, 17 digs and 3 service aces.
- Grace Reckamp paced the Hawks with 48 assists, 5.33 assists per set, while adding 11 digs.
- Stephanie Nguyen led the Scarlet Hawks with 29 digs.
- Jessica Weaver and Victoria Vann each paced the Hawks with 5 total blocks.
