Women's Volleyball Goes 2-0 In Non-Conference Tri-Match

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team completed a 2-0 sweep of their non-conference tri-match with Lake Forest College and Central College, defeating both schools 3-1. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 7-2 overall.

 

How It Happened 

Illinois Tech 3, Lake Forest 1

  • Set one started out strong for the Hawks before the Foresters were able to turn the set around in their favor. The Hawks held an early lead, as they led the Foresters 10-3 before the match took a turn. Lake Forest then spent the rest of the game taking the momentum as they slowly started to come from behind to tie the set at 22 apiece. The two sides then battled to 24-24 before the Foresters took the final two points to win the first set 26-24. 

  • The Hawks held a comfortable lead in set two. The largest margin of the set came at the end when the Hawks picked up 13 point, 25-12 victory to tie the match at 1-1. 

  • Set three saw another close match between the Hawks and Foresters. Both sides were tied up early at 4-4 before the Hawks took over the lead. The Foresters remained close, but Illinois Tech was able to pull away with a set three, 25-20 victory. 

  • The Hawks wrapped up the match in the fourth set as they recorded yet another, 25-12 victory to win the match. 

 

Illinois Tech 3, Central College 1

  • The Scarlet Hawks opened set one with a 6-0 run and held off a late push by the Dutch to get within two points at 21-19, before the Hawks closed out with a 3-0 run to win set one 25-20.

  • Set two saw both teams even at 9-9 until the Scarlet Hawks completed a 5-0 run to take a lead they would never relinquish, en route to a 25-18 set victory.

  • The Dutch battled back in set three. After being tied at 17-17 late in the set, the Dutch outscored the Hawks 8-4 the remainder of the set to win 25-21.

  • In the final set, Central College held leads of 9-6 and 16-14 before the Scarlet Hawks reasserted control, outsourcing the Dutch 11-4 for the set and match victory.

 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts - Combined Matches

  • Briar Moore led the Hawks with 19 kills and a 2.38 kills per set average, to go along with 4 service aces, 33 receptions and a .939 receiving percentage.

  • Zoe Michael finished second with 16 kills and a 2.00 kills per set average. She also added 19 digs, and 41 receptions for a .976 receiving rate.

  • Stephanie Nguyen had 26 digs for a 3.25 digs per set average, to go along with a team-leading 44 receptions and a .955 receiving percentage.

  • Grace Reckamp led in assists with 27 and a 3.38 assists per set average. 

  • Allison Wilkins contributed 22 assists, a 2.75 assists per set average while leading the team with 7 service aces.

  • Jessica Weaver and Victoria Vann paced the Hawks with 5 and 4 total blocks, respectively.

On Tuesday, the Hawks begin a six game away stint. The Hawks first head to Aurora University to take on the Spartans in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match-up Tuesday, September 20th at 7 p.m.
