Scarlet Hawks Earn Second Consecutive Conference Win in a Thrilling Double Overtime Victory
Chicago, Illinois - For the second game in a row the Scarlet Hawks started a strong first half, dominating at the draw circle and time of possession. With 20 shots in the first half, Illinois Tech (2-2 Conference, 4-8 Overall) jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead over the visiting BenU Eagles (1-3 Conference, 1-11 Overall). Senior Captain midfielder Flo Carrerou scored the first three of her six goals for the game in the first half along with two goals each from Freshman attacker Izzy Fitzpatrick and Junior attacker Chelsea Badiola. Heather Bennet, Junior midfielder, was able to add a goal with a brilliant quick stick goal in front of the net assisted by Carrerou.
The second half was all the Benedictine Eagles. The Eagles were able to net 6 goals in the half, three from Gabby Rowe, two from the stick of Samantha Link and another by Becca Gullett. The Eagles were able to take the lead with 6:04 left in the game. Carrerou was able to tie the game less than a minute later. The two teams were able to hold each other off defensively to take the game into overtime.
After strong defensive battles in the first overtime and a big time save from Junior goalie Briana Villagrana, both teams were unable to score to take the lead. In the second overtime period both teams were able to score (Gullet for Benedictine and Fitzpatrick for Illinois Tech) to send the game into a third overtime, which would be a sudden victory period.

Carrerou was able to score the game winner and her 23rd of the season on a free position shot to give the Scarlet Hawks the overtime victory.
The Scarlet Hawks will travel to Iowa this weekend to take on conference foes Cornell College (0-5 Conference, 1-12 Overall) and Wartburg (2-2 Conference, 3-9 Overall). Illinois Tech is tied with Wartburg for fourth in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.
