Jami Sponaugle Named Assistant Sports Information Director

Chicago, Ill. - Jami Sponaugle joins the Illinois Tech athletic staff for the 2022-23 year after being named the Assistant Sports Information Director. This is the first full-time assistant SID position for the department.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited to begin my career with Illinois Tech” said Sponaugle. “I look forward to stepping foot on campus and getting involved in helping cover all the athletic events! I would like to thank Usha Gilmore and Eric Willuweit for giving me this opportunity and welcoming me into the athletic department.”

"We are more than thrilled to have Jami on board" said Assistant Vice President - Director of Athletics Usha Gilmore. "We have a lot of ambitous goals for our athletics program, and a big part of that is the sports information and communication department. Jami's talents are a perfect match for helping us take that next step."

"I couldn't be happier having Jami join our team" said Sports Information Director Eric Willuweit. "In this recruiting process, I came away very impressed with the caliber of applicants who applied for this role. In Jami's case specifically, she was able to stand out from an education, experience and skills standpoint, and her recent time as a Division III soccer player gives her a unique perspective on how to communicate and engage our current and prospective student-athletes."

Native to Cincinnati, Ohio, Sponaugle graduated from Mount St. Joseph University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. Her time spent at Mount St. Joseph is where she fell in love with covering athletics as she worked under the Sports Information Director as a co-op. Sponaugle continued her education at Anderson University (Ind.) the past two years where she was a Graduate Assistant to the Sports Information Director while earning her Masters of Business Administration.

A student athlete at Mount St. Joseph, Sponaugle competed on the women’s soccer team as a forward for four years. She earned academic all-HCAC honors in each of the three years she was eligible. During the 2018 season, Sponaugle and her team won the conference title and competed in the first round of the NCAA D-III tournament.
