CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Tech baseball team hosted the Dominican University Stars on Wednesday afternoon at Ed Glancy Field. After a tightly-contested early portion of the game, the Stars pulled away late to win 14-4.

How it Happened

• Dominican stared the game out on a strong note, scoring three times over the first two innings. 
• Illinois Tech starter Ryan Cantlin settled in over the next two frames, allowing the Scarlet Hawk offense to inch closer in the bottom of the fourth. Tech scored twice: once on a Kyle Bumpass RBI single and again on a Christopher Dornan sacrafice fly. Dominican led 3-2 after four frames.
• The Scarlet Hawks left runners on second and third in the fifth inning, which allowed the Stars to take advantage with a five-run sixth.
• After a Bumpass leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth, Tech's speed put pressure on the Stars offense. The team scored on an error and then a wild pitch to cut the Stars lead to 8-4.
• In the eighth inning, the momentum turned. After loading the bases with no outs, the Scarlet Hawks were unable to score. In the top of the ninth, the Stars followed with a five-run inning to increase the lead to 10.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

• Evan Sexsmith headlined Tech's pitchers with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one walk and no hits.
• Shortstop Tyler Tucker was 2-for-5 with a double.
• Bumpass, the right fielder, went 2-for-4 with a double, run, RBI, and stolen base.

Stats to Know

• Plenty of runs were left on the basepaths for both teams, as the squads combined to leave 26 runners on base (Dominican - 15, Tech - 11).
• Dominican tallied 22 hits and struckout just four times at the plate.
