CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology baseball team earned the 2019-20 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award on Tuesday. This marks the Scarlet Hawks' first ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award as an NCAA Division III member. Illinois Tech is among 109 NCAA Division III institutions to earn the distinction in 2019-20.
The American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award honors college and high school programs coached by ABCA members that post a cumulative grade point average over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year.
The Scarlet Hawks, led by head coach Ed Zeifert (44-82, four seasons), finished the shortened 2020 campaign with an 0-6 record.
