CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Tech's men's basketball team held on to defeat the visiting Fontbonne Griffins on Monday night at the Keating Sports Center.  The Scarlet Hawks won by a score of 74-71.

How it Happened

• Both teams traded baskets to begin the game, with Tech only able to get out to a lead of four within the first five minutes.  Anthony Mosley Jr. propelled the Hawks to a 22-14 lead halfway through the first half, scoring 10 points in all during the first period.  Fontbonne slashed the lead back down to three behind 10 points for Jared Woodcock, but a strong finish to the half from Max Hisatake and Malik Howze—who both scored eight points each in the first half—left Tech leading 39-27 at halftime.
• In the second half, Tech held onto the lead until the Griffins made a strong run at the five-minute mark.  Fontbonne—led by Kris McCann with a game-high 23 points—went on a seven-point streak and then a nine point run to take the lead 60-54.  Tech got back in the game with the effort of Hisatake, who scored 12 points in the second half and dominated on the glass with seven rebounds.  The Hawks stood tall defensively down the stretch and made key free throws, locking down the victory 74-71.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

• Hisatake led the Scarlet Hawks with a double-double: 19 points and 12 rebounds, with five blocks and two assists
• Jake DiGiorgio also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds long as well as one steal and block
• Howze scored 12 points and had five rebounds and two assists
• Mosley Jr. added 18 points plus four each of assists and steals

Stats to Know

• Tech shot an excellent 47.5% from the floor
• Rebounds were in favor of Tech (45-30)
• The Hawks outscored the Griffins in the paint 44-32
• Illinois Tech improves to 7-3 on the year
