Dominican Comes From Behind to Edge Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team squared-off against Dominican University (Ill.) in a Wednesday-night showdown in River Forest that was originally scheduled for December 4. The Scarlet Hawks didn't surrender a lead until Dominican made the score 36-35 with 15:45 left in the second half. Max Hisatake helped IIT regain the lead at 54-51 as late as the 4:01 mark of the second half with a layup and free throw, but the Stars went on to sink nine free throws and a three-pointer en route to a 65-59 victory.

"This is a pretty embarrassing loss considering Dominican isn't a very good basketball team, but neither are we right now," said Scarlet Hawks head men's basketball coach Todd Kelly. "I thought we'd have momentum from Saturday's game vs. MSOE but unfortunately we didn't. We have to go back to the drawing board and figure things out so we can play better at Lakeland."

Hisatake, who scored his final 12 points within the last 15:45 of play, netted a game-high 20 points, three steals and nine boards while Miles Curry also chipped in nine rebounds to go with 14 points. Hisatake now carries 985 points over his four-year career.

The loss drops IIT to 1-6, 1-3 NACC while Dominican ups their record to 3-4, 1-3 NACC.

A trio of Scarlet Hawks dunks highlighted their 18-6 run to kick-off the game that was capped by Milos Dugalic's three-pointer with 12:11 left in the first. That 12-point cushion was IIT's largest of the game, which provoked a Dominican timeout. The breather paid dividends as the Stars closed their deficit to five on two occasions in the first half, with the latest occurrence at the buzzer when Arrin Westbrook made the score 33-28.

Dominican shot 11-23 (.478) in the second half compared to IIT's 10-31 mark (.323), which helped ice them a 65-59 victory.

The Scarlet Hawks, who finished the contest with a 37-31 advantage in rebounding, will return to action on Saturday, December 14 at Lakeland College for a 2:00 p.m. start.
