Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Illinois Tech men's basketball team had a tough start to the regular season, as the host Calvin University Knights(1-0) were anything but hospitable in their 85-54 victory over the Scarlet Hawks Saturday afternoon. The Hawks start the season 0-1.
How It Happened:
First Half
- The teams traded points in the first two minutes of the first half, before the Knights went on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 12-5.
- The Hawks battled back to cut their deficit to 15-12.
- The Knights had another run of seven points to extend their lead to 22-12.
- The Hawks would not get closer than eight points the remainder of the first half, as they trailed 52-35 at the break.
Second Half
- The Hawks hit a couple of three pointers in the first two minutes of the second half to get within 15 points.
- The Hawks went scoreless over the next four minutes as the Knights built their lead to 25 points at 67-42.
- The Hawks offense dried up in the second half, as the team was only able to generate 19 points in the final frame.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Otis Reale had 12 points to pace the Hawks, including 2-4 from behind the arc.
- Ahmad Muhammad provided 11 points off the bench.
- Milos Dugalic added 10 points with six rebounds.
Knight Watch
- Uchenna Egekeze led the Knights with 19 points and four steals.
- Jordan Katje pulled down 14 rebounds for Calvin.
Inside the Box Score
- The Hawks shot 38.2% from the field on 21/55 shooting. The Knights shot 42.7% (32/75).
- The teams were relatively even at three-point range at 29%.
- The Knights had a decided advantage in rebounds at 54-28.
