Men's Basketball Defeats Lakeland, Moves Conference Winning Streak to Six

Chicago, Ill. - All five of the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawk starters ended Saturday's game in double-digits as the Hawks defeated the Lakeland University Muskies 102-75. The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest saw the 3rd seeded Hawks (6-2, 8-7) pick up their sixth straight conference victory over the Muskies (2-3, 8-4)

Saturday's 102 point game marked the Hawks most points scored since 2012. The game also marked Milos Dugalic's 14th double-double of the season, which currently leads all of NCAA DIII. 

First Half (Illinois Tech 53 - Lakeland 32)

  • A Dugalic 3-pointer opened up the contest between the Hawks and Muskies. From the opening basket, the Hawks led the Muskies for the entirety of the game. Between 13:49 and 5:19 the Hawks went on a 28-9 run to take a 43-21 lead. The Hawks controlled the offensive side of the ball for the remainder of the half. Heading into the locker rooms for halftime, the Hawks led the Muskies 53-32

Second Half (Illinois Tech 49 - Lakeland 43)

  • 3-pointers once again began the half for the Hawks, this time with Garrison Carter making one at 19:34 followed by Caden Gigstad making one at 18:58. At 14:40, Desmond Price made a layup, giving the Hawks a 34-point, 72-38 lead over the Muskies, the largest lead of the contest. The Hawks continued to keep their offensive pace with time ticking away. With 2:03 left in the contest, Allan Watatani knocked down the Hawks 100th point as they led the Muskies 100-68. The Muskies were able to pick up 7 points and the Hawks picked up 2 before the final horn buzzed. At the buzzer, the Hawks secured their 6th straight conference victory with a final score of 102-75. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Carter led the Hawks with 21 points after going 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the field and 3-of-3 (100%) from three. Carter picked up 1 rebound and 2 assists.

  • Otis Reale trailed right behind Carter with 20 points. Reale tallied 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and had a team high of 3 steals.

  • Dugalic recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 17 points, 15 rebounds. Dugalic added 6 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. 

  • Gigstad followed with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. 

  • Desmond Price rounded out the Hawks double-digit shooters with 13 points. By the end of the game he notched 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks. 

Muskie Standouts

  • Kai Buliox led the Muskies with 22 points, and tied for the lead with 7 rebounds and 2 assists. 

  • Cam Jaeger ended with 14 points.

  • Isaiah Hammond picked up 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. 

Inside the Box Score 

  • The Hawks finished the game 40-of-75 (53.3%) from the field, 17-of-33 (51.5%) from three, and made 5-of-8 (62.5%) of their free throws. The Muskies finished 27-of-63 (42.9%), 5-of-19 (26.3%), and 16-of-23 (69.6%) respectively. 

  • The Hawks outrebounded the Muskies 45-32. 

  • Both sides tallied 12 turnovers. The Hawks picked up 21 points off of turnovers. 

  • Both sides finished with 44 points in the paint.

Looking to continue their NACC winning streak, the Hawks return to action next Saturday when they travel to Mequon, WI. The Hawks will tip-off against Concordia University Wisconsin (3-9, 1-6) at 2:00p.m.
