Men's Basketball Defeated While on the Road

Madison, Wi. - The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks men's basketball team traveled on Tuesday to take on the Edgewood College Eagles in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. In a game that saw 5 ties and 4 lead changes, the Hawks came up short after leading at halftime. At the final buzzer, the Hawks (9-10, 7-4) fell to the Eagles (3-7, 3-15) 80-72.

First Half (Illinois Tech 34 - Edgewood 30)

  • Garrison Carter opened up the game for the Hawks, recording the first 7 points as the Hawks took a 7-4 lead at the 17:47 mark. From there, the Hawks led for the rest of the first half. The Eagles kept things close through the half as the Hawks led the way. After an Otis Reale layup at 12:42 to make it a 18-14 game, neither side scored a basket until a Zack Davis 3-pointer came in favor of the Hawks at 10:50. With 5 minutes remaining in the half, the Hawks led 29-22 after a Caden Gigstad 3-pointer. Both sides closed out the half with a 3-pointer to make it 34-30 at halftime. 

Second Half (Edgewood 50 - Illinois Tech 38)

  • Coming out of the locker rooms for the second half, the Hawks picked up a quick 6-points with back-to-back three's from Reale and Gigstad. The Eagles then went on a 11-2 run between 18:13 and 16:32 to tie the game at 42-42. Wasting no time, the Hawks gained back their lead at 16:16 and extended it to lead 48:42 with 14:39 remaining. Once again, the Eagles came back to tie the game, this time at 53-53 with 10:36 remaining. Two sides went back and forth, fighting for the lead. The final tie of the game came at 7:44 on the clock when the Eagles made a 3-pointer to make it 60-60. From here, the Eagles took the lead from the Hawks and ran with it. Unfortunately, the Hawks were unable to gain momentum to close in on the Eagles lead as they fell 80-72. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Gigstad led with 23 points and 3 steals. Gigstad picked up 5 rebounds.

  • Carter had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

  • Reale led the team with 8 assists while having 16 points, 1 rebound, and 2 steals. 

  • Price rounded out the double-digit scores with 11 points. Price led with 9 rebounds and picked up 1 assist and 1 block. 

Eagle Standouts

  • Jake Schroeckenthaler led the Eagles, recording a double-double with 27 points, 16 rebounds. Schroeckenthaler added 1 assist and 1 block to his stats. 

  • Cade Ellingson finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and led the team with 3 steals. 

  • Caden Nelson led the Eagles with 7 assists and had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal. 

  • Adam Baierl recorded 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Hawks shot 28-of-60 (46.7%) from the field, 10-of-24 (41.7%) from three, and made 6-of-6 (100%) of their free throws. The Eagles went 27-of-65 (41.5%), 9-of-21 (42.9%), and 17-of-22 (77.3%) respectively.

  • The Eagles outrebounded the Hawks 41-32.

  • Both sides picked up 14 assists
