Men’s Lacrosse Earns 12-8 NACC Road Victory

Madison, Wis. - In a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) game, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks men's lacrosse team was on the road on Saturday to take on the Edgewood University Eagles. 

For the road trip, the Hawks (4-5, 1-2) were able to come home with a win as they defeated the Eagles (3-7, 0-3) 12-8.

First Quarter (Illinois Tech 1 - Edgewood 2)

  • Reed Tangeman scored the first goal of the game for either side with 11:14 on the clock to put the Hawks on the board. The goal was unassisted

  • At 10:39, the Eagles Simon Keddie tied the game with an unassisted goal. The Eagles then took a 2-1 lead that lasted for the remainder of the quarter with an unassisted goal by James Borgardt at 9:44. 

Second Quarter (Illinois Tech 2 - Edgewood 1)

  • Lake Rewey of Edgewood then put the Eagles up 3-1 at the 9:02 mark in the second quarter with a goal assisted by Blake Stockwell. 

  • The Hawks Owen Huard was able to find the back of the net of a Yano Porter assist with 1:47 remaining to make it a one score game. 

  • Then, just 45 seconds later with 1:02 left before halftime, Porter scored a goal of his own to tie the game at 3-3. Porter's goal was unassisted as the Hawks and Eagles headed into halftime tied 3-3.

Third Quarter (Illinois Tech 4 - Edgewood 23)

  • After much of the quarter had passed, the Hawks took the lead with 5:55 remaining when Aidan Gancs scored off a Spencer Meace assist to lead the Eagles 4-3. 

  • Porter then scored his second of the game and extended the Hawks lead at 4:27 with a goal. Porter was assisted by Gans. 

  • Borgardt scored off a Stockwell assist for the Eagles at the 3:11 mark to make it a one goal game. 

  • Jonathan Vitale joined in on the Hawks goal scoring action with 2:09 on the clock from a Porter assist. Here the Hawks led 6-4. 

  • At 1:43, Rewey of the Eagles scored an unassisted goal. 

  • Gans then scored his second on the game 28 seconds later. This time it was unassisted. 

  • With 7 seconds remaining until the end of the third quarter, the Eagles Dylan Oas scored an unassisted goal to make it a one goal game as the Hawks led 7-6. 

Fourth Quarter (Illinois Tech 5 - Edgewood 2)

  • The Hawks then took charge in the fourth quarter, taking a 5 goal lead. Porter opened up the quarter, scoring off a Jackson Brass assist at 14:05 for his third of the game, earning himself a hat-trick.

  • Tangeman then scored goals at 13:03 and 9:53 to earn himself a  hat-trick as well. Tangeman was assisted by Gans on the first goal and Brass on the second.

  • Diego Sosa got his name on the goal scoring sheet with an assisted goal by Tangeman at the 5:54 marl. Here, the Hawks led the Eagles 11-6.

  • The Eagles scored 23 seconds later with an unassisted goal by Rewey.

  • The Hawks final goal of the game came from Vitale off a Porter assist at 4:31. 

  • Rewey of the Eagles scored the final goal of the game at 3:22 off a Stockwell assist. At the final whistle, the Hawks secured a 12-8 victory. 

 Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Reed Tangeman recorded a hat-trick during the game. Tangeman recorded 1 assist, 9 shots, 4 on goal, and 2 ground balls. 

  • Yano Porter also recorded a hat-trick. Porter finished with 3 assists, 6 shots, and 5 on goal. 

Eagles Standouts

  • Lake Rewey led the Eagles with 4 goals. Rewey finished with 12 shots, 9 on goal, 3 ground balls, and 1 caused turnovers. 

  • James Borgardt had 2 goals, 5 shots, 2 on goal, and 3 ground balls. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Although the Hawks were outshot 46-44, the Hawks placed 27 shots on goal, while the Eagles placed 26

  • The Eagles led 43-28 in ground balls

  • Illinois Tech forced Edgewood into 22 turnovers while the Hawks were forced into 20. 

  • The Hawks were 23-of-31 in clears versus the Eagles being 16-of-23.

  • Edgewood led in faceoffs with 16. 

Up Next

The Hawks will return to Stuart Field on Saturday when they are back in NACC action. The Hawks will take on the Marian University Sabres starting at 3:30 PM. Saturday will also mark senior day for the Hawks where they will honor the seniors before the game.
