Men's Soccer Records Third Straight Shutout

Men's Soccer Records Third Straight Shutout

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology men's soccer team (4-3-1) won its third straight match on Sunday, defeating Blackburn College 1-0 at Stuart Field.

How it Happened

  • The shot differential was the big theme of this match, which was very prevelant from the get-go. Illinois Tech took five shots in the first 18 minutes of action before the Beavers generated a scoring chance.
  • Tech's fifth shot was a goal, coming off the foot of Idris Ayantoye in the 17th minute.
  • The Scarlet Hawks would attempt the next nine shots in the half to hold a commanding 14-0 shot advantage at halftime. Tech also attempted the first three shots of the second half before the Blackburn attempted its first shot of the match in the 59th minute.
  • Despite the large volume of shots (29), only eight shots were on target for Illinois Tech, allowing Blackburn to hang around in the match.
  • The Illinois Tech defense would keep the Beavers away from keeper Anastasios Manolis, as a blocked shot in the 87th minute was the only chance Blackburn could muster in the final five minutes of the match.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Making his first start of the season, Ayantoye notched his first goal and tied Noah Griffith for team highs in shots (eight) and shots on goal (three).
  • Sergio Calvo de Leon took three shots.
  • Anastasio Manolis made three saves in his third straight win and shutout.

For the Foes

  • Jourdan Greene stopped seven shots in net.

  • The Scarlet Hawks outshot the Beavers 29-4 in net, but just 8-3 in shots on goal.
