BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich - The Illinois Tech men's soccer team traveled to Michigan on Friday afternoon to take on USCAA foe Andrews University. Tech dominated from start to finish, defeating the Cardinals 5-0.
How it Happened
- It was a big day for the team's seniors. One of them, Norikazu Honda, scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to get the scoring started for the Hawks.
- In the 18th minute, Quentin Dreilich, another senior, assisted Brandon Bortei-Doku to increase the lead to 2-0.
- Both Honda and Dreilich teamed up for the team's third tally. Honda dished out an assist to his fellow senior in the 22nd minute as the lead continued to climb.
- The Scarlet Hawks were not done in the first half, as Michael Podsiadly would score courtsey of a Jacob Brown assist in the 38th minute.
- In the second half, Bortei-Doku scored his second of the match thanks to an assist from Jonathon Clarke.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- The senior tandem of Dreilich and Honda each tallied one goal and one assist. Dreilich also led the team with five shots and three shots on goal.
- Bortei-Doku scored twice on three shots (all on goal).
- Podsiadly scored his third goal of the season on four shots (three on goal).
- Both Clarke and Brown tallied assists.
- Alex Kern recorded a shutout, made three saves, and earned his eighth win of the season.
Stats to Know
- The Scarlet Hawks moved to 9-3-1 on the season.
- Tech outshot the Cardinals 26-6 and have yet to be outshot this season.
- A total of seven yello cards were handed out (four for Andrews, three for Tech).
