Throwback Thursday: Men's Soccer and Women's Volleyball Prevail on Homecoming Four Years Ago Today!

WVB: Scarlet Hawks 3, Rockford 0 (Box Score / Recap)

MSOC: Scarlet Hawks 2, Defiance 1 (Box Score / Recap)

CHICAGO—The 2016 Illinois Institute of Technology Homecoming festivities on September 17 resulted in success for the men's soccer, and women's volleyball teams. The day kicked-off with an 11:00 a.m. women's volleyball match, which ended with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-7) victory over Rockford University. The men's soccer team concluded homecoming in dramatic fashion as Santiago Bartolome's goals in the 13th and 89th minute gave the Scarlet Hawks a 2-1 victory over Defiance College.

The Courtney Curcio-Courtney Darling dynamic duo, who concluded their four-year career in 2020, were dynamite in their 10th collegiate match with the women's volleyball team. Darling paced the Scarlet Hawks with 21 assists while Curcio led the defense with eight digs in the victory over Rockford. Taylor Burton and Irena Grauzinis each tallied eight kills apiece for an Illinois Tech offense that registered an efficient .250 hitting mark compared to Rockford's .-024 percentage.

The men's soccer team's 3:30 p.m. match against Defiance saw a 1-1 score in the 89th minute, when Bartolome's second unassisted goal of the match sealed a 2-1 victory for the Scarlet Hawks. Bartolome peppered four shots and three shots on goal in the contest.

"That was a great individual performance by Santi," said Scarlet Hawks head men's soccer coach Marc Colwell. "To score the game-winner with only 20 seconds left was a lot of fun to celebrate, but stressful to watch for a coach."
