Alumni Spotlight - Brian Farci '16 (Men's Soccer)

CHICAGO, ILL.--Brian Farci '16 was a member of the Scarlet Hawks men's soccer team as a goalkeeper. The Portland, Oregon native graduated with a bachelor of architecture degree.

What is your favorite memory about your time as a Scarlet Hawk, on or off the playing surface?: I have many great memories training and playing alongside my teammates, seeing the growth of the team both physically and mentally.

What are you most proud of from your time as a Scarlet Hawk?: I am most proud of being a mentor for the team, as I was one of the only upperclassmen in a sea of freshmen teammates. Joining the team in my last year of college, I brought the experience and perspective of how to balance school with athletics.

What advice would you give to your college self or current Scarlet Hawks?: My advice to current Scarlet Hawks is to open your perspective of what it truly means to be a part of a team and understand your role to bring them success. As the world's fastest marathoner Eliud Kipchoge said, "100% of me is nothing compared to 1% of the entire team."

Where do you currently live and what do you do for a career?: I currently live in Portland, Oregon and work at Nike as a Global Brand Experience Designer.

How did your collegiate career prepare you for life after college?: My collegiate career prepared me to be adaptable and agile on and off the field. It taught me how to be a leader and how to think strategically about the task at hand.

What personal or professional accomplishments are you most proud of since you graduated from Illinois Tech?: Since graduating five years ago, I have had the privilege to learn from and work with a talented team of designers that have consistently pushed the boundary of how Nike tells immersive stories that inspire people around the world. We are committed to creating a new and diverse generation of Nike creative leaders and thinkers, and I look forward to continuing my career as a part of a multidisciplinary team.

How are you still involved with your sport?: I maintain my athletic capabilities through playing futsal, and I continue to be inspired by all the incredible athletes around the world who break boundaries in their sports.

What attribute from your time as a student-athlete has helped you in your professional career the most?: Being a team-player and the ability to see the game played from different angles in order to strategize how to achieve the task at hand.
