Men's Soccer Falls To St. Norbert 2-1

De Pere, Wisc. - Outmanned, outshot and playing an opponent undefeated in conference play on the road, the Illinois Tech men's soccer team stayed even with St. Norbert for 65 minutes, but the Green Knights eventually pulled away to defeat the Scarlet Hawks 2-1 Saturday afternoon. The Hawks fell to 5-9-0 overall (1-6-0 NACC). The Green Knights improved to 8-4-1 overall, and remained perfect in conference play (7-0-0 NACC).

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first half, the Green Knights opened the scoring in the 49-minute mark when Joe Meade (4th) put in a header off a rebound from a shot that carromed off the left post.  
  • Less than 23 seconds later, the Hawks tied up the score when Michael Kaczowka put in a header of his own on a cross from Maciek Matusiak from the left corner. 
  • The Green Knights answered in the 65th minute when Matthew Wright (3rd) scored a header off a corner kick from Willem van den Akker for the eventual game-winning goal.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Adam Falcigno saved six of eight shots by St. Norbert.
  • Kaczowka's goal was his fifth of the season.
  • Younghoon Jung played a key role in the Hawks lone goal, as the 5'4" mid-fielder won a ball battle with the Green Knights 6'0" Caden Etzel before feeding Matusiak to set up the cross for the Kaczowka goal.
