Men's Soccer Falls Late to Concordia Chicago

River Forest, Ill. - Despite leading the game on three separate occasions, the men's soccer was unable to hold off Concordia Chicago, as the Cougars scored two goals in the final six minutes to defeat the visiting Scarlet Hawks 4-3 Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks fell to 6-10-1 overall (2-7-1 NACC). The Cougars improved to 9-4-2 (6-2-2 NACC).

How It Happened

  • The Hawks opened the scoring in the 8th minute when senior Devin Zakeri headed in a goal on a header assist from Michael Kaczowka. The play was set up by a deep pass into the box from Conner Shaw.
  • The Cougars responded eight minutes later as Ryan Kuhlman(8th) scored on a header from a corner kick from Oscar Montejano.
  • 90 seconds into the second half the Hawks regained the lead, as Zakeri scored his second of the game and third of the season, on another header assist, this time courtesy of Shaw.
  • Oscar Montejano(2nd) tied the game in the 63rd minute, via a penalty kick.
  • Kaczowka put the Hawks on top again in the 72nd minute, when he collected an errant drop pass from a Cougars defender, and sidestepped the goalkeeper for his ninth of the season.
  • Montejano(3rd) knotted the score at 3-3 in the 83rd minute, on a cross from the right corner from German Tinoco.
  • Tinoco tallied the game-winner three minutes later when he booted in his own rebound for his third of the season.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Zakeri had two goals on the afternoon.
  • Kaczowka's added a goal and an assist.
  • Shaw with an asisst and the setup to Kaczowka on the goal by Zakeri to open the game.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Cougars outshot the Hawks 15-13.
  • Corner kicks were even at three apiece.
  • Illinois Tech incurred 14 fouls in the contest, versus 12 for Concordia Chicago.
