Fond du Lac, Wis. – Despite staking out to an early 1-0 lead, the Illinois Tech men's soccer team was unable to hold off Marian University, falling to the Sabres 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Wisconsin. The loss dropped the Scarlet Hawks to 2-3-0 in NACC play, and 7-4-0 overall. The Sabres improved to 2-2-1 in the NACC, and 4-5-1 overall.

How It Happened

  • The Scarlet Hawks opened the scoring at the 2:47 mark in the first half. Younghoon Jung intercepted a clearing attempt about 18 yards out of goal and slipped a shot inside the left corner for a 1-0 Scarlet Hawks lead.
  • The Sabres countered at the 9:12 mark.  A through ball by Nathan Blazenko along the near side to Giuliano Corazzina created a break for the Sabres.
  • Corazzina sped straight ahead, stopped, cut inside and shot a left-footer past Illinois Tech starting goalkeeper Adam Falcigno, into the right corner, to tie the score at 1-1.
  • The Sabres increased their lead a little over six minutes into the second half. Marian's Max Kauffman tracked down a lose ball after a Sabres free kick deep into Scarlet Hawks territory. He dribbled through several Hawk defenders before making a slide pass to his left to a wide-open Drew Cowden, who fired it into the right corner for a 2-1 Sabres lead.
  • Marian sealed their victory at the 70:24 on Corazzina's second goal of the match, and eighth of the season. A Scarlet Hawk free kick in the Marian zone was cleared from the goal area and picked up by Marian's Israel Duran, who moved up the near sideline and sent a through ball to Corazzina in the Illinois Tech zone. Corazzina outraced a Hawk defender and beat goalkeeper Marko Brajkovic one-on-one to the right corner for the 3-1 final margin of victory.
